GeneralAspley State School is a home away from home for just over 610 students from Prep to Year 7. We don't just teach curriculum, students are engaged in learning. The school motto "We who learn succeed" further emphasises our passion for future orientated active and informed citizens. Many of our learning environments have recently been upgraded to reflect our future focus. Classrooms are well equipped to enable students to instantly access information and programs (see below). Our focus is on developing exciting relevant programs linked to the National Curriculum whilst also maintaining a strong emphasis on the basic essentials.
Situated on the corner of Maundrell Terrace and Horn Road in Aspley our school is celebrating 120 years of quality education in 2010. If you are 'shopping' for a unique education experience for your child make sure you have Aspley State School on your list. We welcome you to come and see for yourself the wonders that await your child and your family at Aspley State School. (see also "A message from the Principal")
Aspley State School is a learning community. We value and promote lifelong learning for all members of our school community. Our aim is to develop students who are self managed individuals, resourceful, creative thinkers, effective communicators, quality producers and active, responsible group members. Through regular meetings, our planning, teaching and assessment practices are continuously subject to reflection and refinement.
Curriculum is developed around the Essential Learnings and Standards within the 8 Key Learning Areas - English, mathematics, science, SOSE, health and physical education, the arts, technology and LOTE. With a large assembly hall, swimming pool, and two technology rooms, both containing thirty computers, our school is well resourced to offer a wide and varied curriculum.
Our units of work, contain high levels of intellectual quality, recognise differences in students and groups, are provided in a supportive classroom environment and endeavour to connect students to the real world.
Our school has a strong commitment to environmental sustainability being an active participant in the Queensland Environmental Sustainable Schools Initiative. We are committed to reducing our ecological footprint through our education programs as well as practical initiatives such as the installation of four, twenty-five thousand litre water tanks to service our toilets and swimming pool.
Aspley offers a wide range of cultural and enrichment activities. We have an excellent instrumental music program. In 2008 our senior band was awarded gold and our string orchestra silver at the Brisbane North Primary Schools Fanfare. We have a junior choir, senior choir and boys choir. Outside class teaching times, students can access private tuition in art, tennis and swimming. A chess club operates on Tuesday afternoons.
Aspley State School provides opportunities for students to participate in interschool sport in terms one and four and athletics in terms two and three. Our commitment to Education Queensland's Smart Moves initiative contributes to the physical development and future lifestyle choices of our students.
At Aspley we are lucky to have some wonderful facilities to enable us to provide our educational programs.
We have a large hall (currently being upgraded to include a new tuckshop, music classroom, music studio and a permanant stage area).
